A magician? Maybe, but i'm usually known by the name Marco Geertsma. At the time of writing the content for this page i'm 22 years old. Currently i'm enrolled at the NHL in Leeuwarden for the study 'Computer Science' (class 1F, Mentor is Nynke van der Wijk).
The biggest passion of my life will most defenitly be traveling the world. I love seeing everything the world has to offer and to meet all kinds of wonderfull new people.
This one is pretty obvious. I love being able to 'create' random things from nothing. Programming is the best example i can give of starting with nothing and ending up with a product you yourself didnt even expect.
Tinkering with hardware
I also love to make computers look as 'clean' and 'slick' as possible. Cablemanagemant is second nature to me and case-lighting is a must if you have a panel in your case.
Fitness has been an important part of my life for about three years now. I always used to be pretty 'fluffy' (around the 130/140kg mark). One day i decided to start with fitness and instantly fell in love with it.
Cars and working on cars
This one can be combined with tinkering with hardware. I love being able to fix something and then seeing the results of your labor yourself. My own car is an example of that.
I pretty much always listen or at least like to listen to music. The styles I listen to are rock or edm at the moment but i like every type of music. Favorite band right now are the Foo Fighters.
There is very well a reason that traveing lists higher in my hobby list then programming. I just love to travel so my ideal future job would be one where i can travel often or during the job. An example of this would be a company with an open desk policy. That way i can do my work from my laptop while sitting on the rice fields in Thailand. This is what i consider a dream job. I should probably also note that i dont value money at all. I understand that you need money to get to places and to buy food but having a lot of money doesnt give me nearly enough satisfaction as helping other people.
Perhaps my strongest personality trait is my modesty. I very much dislike to brag about my own acomplishments so i pretty much never do. Other people often tell me i'm way to thoughtfull about other people and that i should think more about looking after myself. Unfortunatly this leads to me being reservered on saying something about myself or asking other people for help. That is defenitly something i have to work on.
We had to fill in an Eneagram test to see if the personality traits we gave ourself were confirmed by the test. Acording to the test i got most points (19) in 'Mediator' and (17) in 'Helper'. These results both resemble with the story i told about my own personality. Finally i got (6) points in 'Romanticist', I can only assume (certain) woman find it romantic to be traveling the world with a person they love. Perhaps i'm more of a romantic person then i thought of myself.
I've chosen the study for computer science because i've been working with computers since i was a little kid. It started out as a hobby and that hobby is still growing with interest.
We also had to fill in the 'Kolbtest'. This test shows you what your prefered way to study is but it also shows you what your prefered approach is to solve a problem. According to the test I prefer to work by using things i learned imediatly in projects. This is something i can totally relate to.

Know what you need to realise your goals
Know your area of exptertise
Being able to work in a team
Being able to work according to a pre-defind plan (scrum)
Being able to size up each task (a.k.a. know how much work it is)
Trustworthy / reliable

At Sterc I mainly programmed front-end websites. I also learned to work with the CMS ModX here.
General education (Jan 2006 - Dec 2010)
Burgemeester Harmsma School, Gorredijk, VMBO-TL
Subjects: Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Sociology, Dutch, Enlish, Mathematics.
General professional knowledge :
Because of my pre-HBO knowledge of IT i've already developed some general IT skills with multiple companies. This allows me to function well in teams and cover a broad demand.
I can apply my learned skills efficiently to employers becuase I tried to cover as broad of a spectrum as possible during my previous study.
Because my previous study was focussed very broad i didnt study each subject very long before going on to the next.
Transfer and broad applications
Because i've developed myself in a very broad spectrum I'm able to use that knowledge on very differend situations.
Creativity and complexity
Despite me having a lot of hands-on experience I'm not yet able to solve big issues on my own.
I can see if a task goes according to plan becuase of my broad knowledge of multiple subjects.
Methodical and reflective thinking and acting
I'm able to split bigger tasks into smaller tasks and plan accordingly.
More often than not i've worked in a team to accomplish big tasks. This gives me plenty of experience of working with other professionals.
Basic Qualification for management
I dont have a lot of experience with managing employees or projects on my own but i'm always eager to learn new skills.
Sense of social responsibility
I dont need experience to know that i'm always fully committed to projects. I'll always help clients or customers to the fullest of my ability.
What do i want? Thats a really good question. At the moment i'd like to keep all options open and not make any rushed decisions. I've only just started my HBO adventure so i dont know what profession will appeal to me te most. During my time at the NHL i'll keep specializing in the courses that i 'like' the most and i'll just see where the wind takes me.
At the time of writing this the job that appeals to me the most would be security engineer. Lately i've been really intreged by password protection and hashing so i'd like to dive more into those kind of functions.
A lot of my ambition is just simply using a computer, problem solving and the creating of products and developing a finished product is a very enjoyable process.
My dream job will obviously have a set amount of criterea:
The job has to be enjoyable
I want to be able to go to work with a smile on my face, i dont want to be doing the same everyday and a bunch of social co-workers is a big plus.
My ideal job would involve a no-desk policy.
